Class 8 Maths – Chapter 14
Factorisation
STEP 3: NCERT Examples (Solved)
Factorisation
STEP 3: NCERT Examples (Solved)
🔹 Example 1:
Factorise: 6x + 12
Solution:
Common factor = 6
6x + 12 = 6(x + 2)
Factorise: 6x + 12
Solution:
Common factor = 6
6x + 12 = 6(x + 2)
🔹 Example 2:
Factorise: ax + ay + bx + by
Solution:
Group the terms:
= a(x + y) + b(x + y)
= (a + b)(x + y)
Factorise: ax + ay + bx + by
Solution:
Group the terms:
= a(x + y) + b(x + y)
= (a + b)(x + y)
🔹 Example 3:
Factorise: x² − 16
Solution:
This is a difference of squares:
x² − 16 = x² − 4²
= (x − 4)(x + 4)
Factorise: x² − 16
Solution:
This is a difference of squares:
x² − 16 = x² − 4²
= (x − 4)(x + 4)
🔹 Example 4:
Factorise: 3x² − 12x
Solution:
Take common factor 3x:
3x² − 12x = 3x(x − 4)
Factorise: 3x² − 12x
Solution:
Take common factor 3x:
3x² − 12x = 3x(x − 4)
