📘 Class 8 Maths – Chapter 14: Factorisation
STEP 6: Mind Map + Easy Memory Tricks
🧠What is Factorisation?
Factorisation means breaking an algebraic expression into simpler parts called factors.
🌿 FACTORISATION – MIND MAP
- 1. Common Factor Method
- Find HCF of all terms
- Take it outside the bracket
- Example:
6x + 9 = 3(2x + 3)
- 2. Grouping Method
- Group terms in pairs
- Take common factor from each group
- Example:
ax + ay + bx + by = a(x + y) + b(x + y)
- 3. Identity Method
- Use standard algebraic identities
-
(a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
(a − b)² = a² − 2ab + b²
a² − b² = (a − b)(a + b)
- 4. Quadratic Expressions
- Split the middle term
- Take common factors
- Example:
x² + 5x + 6 = (x + 2)(x + 3)
🎯 EASY MEMORY TRICKS
🔹 Trick 1: C–G–I–Q
- C → Common factor
- G → Grouping
- I → Identity
- Q → Quadratic
🔹 Trick 2: “Square has 3 terms”
If an expression has 3 terms, think of:
(a + b)² or (a − b)²
🔹 Trick 3: Minus between squares
a² − b² → Always becomes
(a − b)(a + b)
✍️ Exam Writing Tips
- Mention the method name
- Show step-by-step working
- Final answer must be in brackets
