Class 8 Maths – Chapter 10
Visualising Solid Shapes
STEP 7: Mind Map + Easy Memory Tricks
🧠 Mind Map – Visualising Solid Shapes
Solid Shapes (3D)
- 📦 Cube
- 📦 Cuboid
- ⚽ Sphere
- 🥫 Cylinder
- 🍦 Cone
Key Elements
- Face – Flat surface
- Edge – Line where faces meet
- Vertex – Corner point
Views of Objects
- Top View
- Front View
- Side View
Nets
- Flat pattern of a solid
- Helps in understanding shape formation
Maps & Rotation
- Location understanding
- Turning objects around an axis
🧩 Easy Memory Tricks
🔹 Trick 1: FEV Rule (Cube / Cuboid)
F – Faces | E – Edges | V – Vertices
Cube → 6 Faces, 12 Edges, 8 Vertices
🔹 Trick 2: “TV-FS” for Views
Top View → See from above
Front View → See from front
Side View → See from side
🔹 Trick 3: NET = OPEN SHAPE
Net means the solid is cut open and laid flat.
🔹 Trick 4: 3D = REAL LIFE
Anything you can hold → 3D object.
🔹 Trick 5: FACE is FLAT
If it is flat → it is a face.
🎯 Exam Use Tip
Remember formulas using tricks, draw neat diagrams, and clearly label faces, edges and vertices.
