Q1. Find the square of 12.
Answer:
Square of a number = number × number
12 × 12 = 144
Q2. Write the first five square numbers.
Answer:
1² = 1
2² = 4
3² = 9
4² = 16
5² = 25
Q3. Find the square root of 81.
Answer:
9 × 9 = 81
∴ √81 = 9
Q4. Find √144 using prime factorisation.
Answer:
144 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3
= (2×2) × (2×2) × (3×3)
√144 = 2 × 2 × 3 = 12
Q5. Is 50 a perfect square? Give reason.
Answer:
Prime factorisation of 50:
50 = 2 × 5 × 5
Since all factors are not in pairs, 50 is not a perfect square.
Q6. Find the smallest number by which 180 must be multiplied to make it a perfect square.
Answer:
180 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5
Unpaired factor = 5
Required number = 5
Q7. Find √100.
Answer:
10 × 10 = 100
∴ √100 = 10
