Mensuration

STEP 1: Foundation Notes (Basics)

Mensuration is the branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement of:

  • Length
  • Area
  • Surface Area
  • Volume

📐 2D Shapes (Flat Shapes)

2D shapes have only length and breadth.

  • Square
  • Rectangle
  • Triangle
  • Circle

We calculate:

  • Perimeter
  • Area

📦 3D Shapes (Solid Shapes)

3D shapes have length, breadth and height.

  • Cube
  • Cuboid
  • Cylinder
  • Cone
  • Sphere

We calculate:

  • Surface Area
  • Volume

📝 Important Terms

Perimeter: Total distance around a shape.

Area: Region covered by a shape.

Surface Area: Total area of all faces of a solid.

Volume: Space occupied by a solid.

📏 Units Used

  • Length → cm, m
  • Area → cm², m²
  • Volume → cm³, m³

🎯 Exam Note
