Class 8 Maths – Chapter 15: Introduction to Graphs
Step 2: Plotting Points on a Graph
1️⃣ What is Plotting?
Plotting means marking a point on the graph using its coordinates.
2️⃣ Steps to Plot a Point (x, y)
- Draw the X-axis and Y-axis.
- Start from the Origin (0,0).
- Move x units right (if +) or left (if −).
- Then move y units up (if +) or down (if −).
- Mark the point with a dot.
3️⃣ Example
Plot the point (4, 3):
- Move 4 units right from the origin.
- Move 3 units upward.
- Mark the point.
4️⃣ Negative Coordinates
- (−3, 2) → left 3 units, up 2 units
- (2, −4) → right 2 units, down 4 units
📌 Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not move vertically first.
- Do not mix x and y values.
Memory Trick: "Walk → Climb" (X first, then Y)
