Chapter 1: Knowing Our Numbers

  • Place value depends on position
  • Indian number system: Ones, Tens, Hundreds, Thousands, Lakhs
  • Roman numerals: I, V, X, L, C, D, M
  • Rounding helps in estimation

Chapter 2: Whole Numbers

  • Whole numbers start from 0
  • Successor = next number
  • Predecessor = previous number
  • 0 is additive identity
  • 1 is multiplicative identity

Chapter 3: Playing with Numbers

  • Factors divide numbers exactly
  • Multiples are products
  • Prime numbers have only two factors
  • HCF = highest common factor
  • LCM = least common multiple

Chapter 4: Basic Geometrical Ideas

  • Point shows position
  • Line has no end points
  • Line segment has two end points
  • Ray has one starting point
  • Angle is formed by two rays

Chapter 5: Understanding Elementary Shapes

  • Types of angles: acute, right, obtuse
  • Triangle has 3 sides

  • Polygons have straight sides
  • 3D shapes have faces, edges, vertices

Chapter 6: Integers

  • Integers include negative numbers, zero, positive numbers
  • Zero is neither positive nor negative
  • Positive numbers lie to the right of zero
  • Negative numbers lie to the left of zero

Chapter 7: Fractions

  • Fraction = part of a whole
  • Numerator is top number
  • Denominator is bottom number
  • Equivalent fractions have same value

Chapter 8: Decimals

  • Decimal point separates whole and fractional part
  • Tenths, hundredths come after decimal
  • Decimals are used in money and measurement

Chapter 9: Data Handling

  • Data means information
  • Tally marks help in counting
  • Pictographs use pictures
  • Bar graphs use bars

Chapter 10: Mensuration

  • Perimeter = boundary length
  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × (L + B)
  • Area of rectangle = L × B
  • Area of square = side × side

Chapter 11: Algebra

  • Variables are letters
  • Constants are fixed numbers
  • Expressions use letters and numbers
  • Equations show equality

Chapter 12: Ratio and Proportion

  • Ratio compares two quantities
  • Use : symbol
  • Proportion means equal ratios
  • Direct proportion increases together
