Basic Meaning
Change: Any alteration in shape, size, colour, or state of an object.

Changes Around Us
Many changes take place around us every day. Some changes are useful, while some may be harmful.
Slow and Fast Changes
- Slow changes: Take a long time (rusting of iron, growth of plants)
- Fast changes: Occur quickly (burning of paper, bursting of crackers)
Reversible Changes
Changes that can be reversed to get back the original object are called reversible changes.
Examples: Melting of ice, folding of paper
Irreversible Changes
Changes that cannot be reversed are called irreversible changes.
Examples: Burning of wood, cooking of food
Periodic Changes
Changes that repeat themselves after a fixed interval of time are called periodic changes.
Examples: Day and night, seasons
Changes That Bring Desirable Results
Changes like ripening of fruits and cooking of food are useful to us.
Changes That Bring Undesirable Results
Changes like floods, earthquakes, and spoiling of food may cause harm.
