Class 8 Maths – Chapter 10
Visualising Solid Shapes
STEP 8: Quick Revision Sheet
📌 1. What are Solid Shapes?
Solid shapes are 3-dimensional (3D) objects which have length, breadth and height.
Examples: Cube, Cuboid, Sphere, Cylinder, Cone
📌 2. Parts of a Solid Shape
- Face: Flat surface of a solid
- Edge: Line segment where two faces meet
- Vertex: Point where edges meet
Example (Cube): 6 Faces, 12 Edges, 8 Vertices
📌 3. Views of Objects
- Top View: Seen from above
- Front View: Seen from front
- Side View: Seen from side
Same object may look different from different views.
📌 4. Nets of Solid Shapes
A net is a flat pattern which can be folded to make a solid.
Cube has many possible nets.
📌 5. Maps & Directions
Maps help us understand:
- Location
- Distance
- Direction
📌 6. Rotation
Rotation means turning an object around a fixed point or axis.
Rotation does not change the shape or size.
🎯 Exam Tips
- Draw neat diagrams
- Label faces, edges and vertices clearly
- Write short and correct definitions
- Practice view-based questions
