STAGE 0: Let Us Begin (Foundation)

The surface of the Earth is not the same everywhere. Some places are high, some are flat, and some are raised areas.

These different shapes of land are called landforms.

This chapter explains the major landforms of the Earth in a very easy way 😊

Major Landforms

There are three major landforms:

  • Mountains
  • Plains
  • Plateaus

Mountains

Mountains are very high land areas. They have steep slopes and peaks.

Mountains are useful because:

  • They give us rivers
  • They affect climate
  • They have forests

Types of Mountains

  • Fold Mountains – very high (Himalayas)
  • Block Mountains – formed by cracks
  • Volcanic Mountains – formed by volcanoes

Plains

Plains are large flat areas of land.

They are very useful for people because:

  • They are good for farming
  • They have thick population
  • Transport is easy

Plateaus

Plateaus are raised flat lands. They are higher than plains.

Plateaus are rich in minerals.

  • Climate
  • Farming
  • Human life
