The surface of the Earth is not the same everywhere. Some places are high, some are flat, and some are raised areas.

Major Landforms
There are three major landforms:
- Mountains
- Plains

Mountains
Mountains are very high land areas. They have steep slopes and peaks.
Mountains are useful because:

Types of Mountains
- Fold Mountains – very high (Himalayas)
- Block Mountains – formed by cracks
- Volcanic Mountains – formed by volcanoes
Plains
Plains are large flat areas of land.
They are very useful for people because:
- They are good for farming
- They have thick population
- Transport is easy
Plateaus
Plateaus are raised flat lands. They are higher than plains.
Plateaus are rich in minerals.
