Answer the following questions:

(i) What are the various activities undertaken by people in rural areas?

In rural areas, people mainly depend on natural resources. The common activities include agriculture, animal rearing, fishing, forestry and handicrafts. Most people earn their livelihood from farming and related activities.


(ii) What are the main occupations of people living in urban areas?

People living in urban areas are engaged in occupations such as working in factories, offices, schools, hospitals, shops and transport services. Many people are employed in industries, trade, business and service sectors.


(iii) What are the advantages of transport?

Transport helps people and goods to move from one place to another. It promotes trade and commerce, saves time, connects distant places and helps in the economic development of a country.


(iv) What are the means of communication?

The means of communication include letters, postcards, telephones, mobile phones, internet, emails, radio and television. These help people to share information quickly.

Give reasons:

(i) Today’s world is shrinking.

Today’s world is shrinking because of fast means of transport and communication. People can travel long distances in a short time and communicate instantly using mobile phones and the internet.


(ii) Communication is very important in today’s world.

Communication is important because it helps people stay connected. It allows sharing of information, ideas and knowledge. It also plays a vital role in education, trade, administration and social life.
