Answer the following questions:
(i) What are the two types of deserts found in the world?
The two types of deserts found in the world are hot deserts and cold deserts. Hot deserts have very high temperatures, while cold deserts have extremely low temperatures.
(ii) Describe the climate of the Sahara Desert.
The Sahara Desert has an extremely hot and dry climate. Days are very hot, while nights are cold. Rainfall is very low and irregular.
(iii) Name the animals found in the Sahara Desert.
Animals found in the Sahara Desert include camels, snakes, lizards, scorpions, foxes and some species of birds.
(iv) What crops are grown by the people of Ladakh?
The people of Ladakh grow crops such as barley, potatoes, peas and vegetables. Agriculture is practiced during the short summer season.

Give reasons:
(i) People in deserts wear loose cotton clothes.
People in deserts wear loose cotton clothes to protect themselves from heat. These clothes help in keeping the body cool during the hot daytime.
(ii) Vegetation is scarce in deserts.
Vegetation is scarce in deserts because of very low rainfall and extreme temperatures. Only plants that need very little water can survive in deserts.
