🌍 Introduction

A desert is a dry region with very little rainfall. Deserts have extreme climatic conditions. This chapter explains life in hot deserts and cold deserts.


🏜️ Hot Desert – The Sahara

📍 Location

  • Located in northern Africa
  • World’s largest hot desert

🌡️ Climate

  • Extremely hot during the day
  • Very cold nights
  • Very little rainfall

🌵 Natural Vegetation

  • Scanty vegetation
  • Plants like cactus, date palms and thorny bushes

🐪 Wildlife

  • Camels, snakes, lizards, scorpions

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Life of People

  • People are nomadic
  • Main occupations: animal rearing, oasis farming
  • Wear loose cotton clothes to protect from heat

🏔️ Cold Desert – Ladakh

📍 Location

  • Located in the northern part of India
  • Surrounded by the Himalayas

❄️ Climate

  • Extremely cold climate
  • Long winters
  • Very little rainfall

🌾 Natural Vegetation

  • Very limited vegetation
  • Grasses and shrubs

🐐 Wildlife

  • Yak, wild goat, sheep and snow leopard

👨‍🌾 Life of People

  • People practice agriculture during short summers
  • Main crops: barley, potatoes, peas
  • Animal rearing is common

🔄 Human Adaptation

People adapt their lifestyle according to climatic conditions. In deserts, houses, clothing and food habits are suited to extreme weather.
